Frequently Asked Questions
1. How Does Chiropractic Work?
Your brain controls, regulates, and coordinates everything in your body constantly. Health problems can develop when your brain and body can’t communicate effectively. Chiropractic works by making sure your brain and body can “talk” to each other efficiently and effectively with as little extra resistance as possible. Loss of the normal, healthy motion and alignment of the integrated parts of your spine causes unnecessary resistance and stress and that extra stress always interferes with normal communication.
2. What does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractors find and correct the imbalances that lead to loss of normal, healthy spinal motion and alignment. We use gentle and safe adjustments to restore normal motion and alignment. Like carefully tuning a musical instrument to ensure it can produce the clearest music every time it is played.
3. Who can benefit from chiropractic treatment?
The short answer is EVERYONE. The stresses of everyday life can lead to the imbalances we have been talking about. Those imbalances can eventually lead to many of the common health problems that many people suffer from different types of discomfort to issues with digestion, sleep, mood control, hormonal balance, as well as a huge variety of other issues. We have seen so many people struggling with such a wide variety of challenges over the years that our mantra is "Life is Always Better When You're In Tune!"
4. Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes! A study conducted by the government of New Zealand found that adjustments are “remarkably safe”, approximately 100 times safer than taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. To rule out any type of complication, a thorough history and exam are performed and techniques are custom tailored for each individual.
5. What is a chiropractic adjustment?
An adjustment is when the chiropractor gently and safely adds motion back to a “stuck” area of your spine. This could be from the top of the neck to the very low back or your hips. Chiropractors also adjust other joints like ankles, knees, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and jaw when necessary.
6. What type of treatment do chiropractors offer?
Chiropractors are trained to offer a variety of different types of care depending on the individual needs of each patient. At Connection Chiropractic we find that the best results come from adjustments (either by hand or with a specialized adjusting instrument) and simple strategies for supporting the adjustment.
7. How long until I feel better after a chiropractic treatment?
Most patients will feel better within the first few days to several weeks. Chronic and recurrent injuries often take longer to heal. Before you commit to any care we will evaluate your specific case and lay out a custom care plan for you to get the best results in the shortest time.
8. How long will I need chiropractic care for?
How long you receive care depends on your individual health goals. Some people merely want pain relief, while others are looking to discover new levels of health. After the initial stage of care has concluded successfully, most of our patients opt to continue their care on a wellness plan to prevent these issues from ever interrupting their lives again.
9. Do chiropractors care for children, babies, and pregnant women?
Yes, chiropractors can treat any age individual, from newborn’s to senior citizens. At Connection Chiropractic we have completed additional training for pediatric and prenatal care through Life University in Atlanta GA.
10. What is included in a chiropractic treatment plan?
Your chiropractor will give you a game plan and a time line to reach your goals. This will include what type of care you will be getting and how often you need to get that care to have the fastest results. In most cases you will also get some at home work to do like icing and exercises.
11. Do I need a referral from a medical doctor to see a chiropractor?
No, you do not need a referral from anyone to get Chiropractic care. In some cases, your insurance company may want you to get a referral from a medical doctor to be eligible for reimbursement.
12. Can the chiropractor directly bill my insurance?
No, at Connection Chiropractic we don’t participate with any 3rd party payers or insurance companies. We can however provide you with a detailed receipt that many of our clients submit to their insurance companies and get reimbursed directly.
13. Do chiropractors adjust on the first visit?
Yes, in most cases our chiropractors will adjust the patient on the first visit to help you start getting the results you’re looking for as fast as possible.
14. Do chiropractors only adjust backs?
No, chiropractors can adjust many different joints that affect almost all parts of the body. From feet and ankles to jaw and sinuses, chiropractors provide care for far more than just the spine.
